After starting the season 2-0, defeating Weymouth and Catholic Memorial, Boys Golf fell to Wellesley 104-76 on Sept. 13 at the team’s home opener. Senior captains Paul and Charles Sacramona split up for the top two pairs, the first pair being C. Sacramona with junior Jackson Wohler and behind them the second duo of Paul Sacramona with junior Thomas Frucci. Against the Raiders, C. Sacramona shot a 43 as Wohler shot a 40, while P. Sacramona shot a 44 and Frucci shot for 41, all on nine holes.

Finishing strong against CM, the Rebels headed into the match against Wellesley with full confidence, but the Raiders have proven to be a tough team to beat in the past and reminded Walpole of their talents in this loss. After starting off strong as P. Sacramona got a par on the first hole, the Rebels later fell behind and were unable to get the match back.

“Wellesley is always a team we look forward to playing because it’s always a tough test,” Frucci said.

Teeing off at 3:45, the weather for the match was not ideal, with strong winds and light rain, but it was better than the previous days leading up to it.

“There was a lot of rain in the days previous to this match, and it affected our preparation for Wellesley,” C. Sacramona said. “One day, we had to practice in the rain for a little just to get out there and play.”

The Rebels need underclassmen to step up this season behind the two Sacramona seniors.

“I think the team is strong seeing as we are 2-1, but we struggle against the better teams,” P. Sacramona said. “Our top five of Charles, Frucci, Wohler, and Cole Scannell with me are solid, but after us it’s a toss up for the next man in line.”

The Rebels next match is next Wednesday, Sept. 26, versus Natick at home, which will be another tough test for Walpole.
