Boys Soccer Shuts Out Catholic Memorial 4-0

Walpole Boys Soccer defeated the Catholic Memorial Knights on Sept. 13 in a 4-0 shutout. Currently with a record of 3-3-1, the team wants to repeat as Herget Champions for the third year in a row.

“It’s a lot of pressure considering how effective we were last year, but I think we can rebuild from last year and accomplish what no Walpole soccer team has ever done before,” senior Lucas Ferreira said.

Against the Knights, the Rebels were held scoreless until the second half when junior Aidan Murray scored off an offensive breakaway with 27 minutes left in the second half. The first goal was shortly followed by another goal notched in by Ferreira.

The Rebels’ offense did not quit there. Senior Cullen McGlynn and junior Pat Sullivan each added goals in the last 13 minutes.

The first half was a different story. The Rebels had difficulty getting the ball in the back of the net and were held scoreless by the Knights.

“It was good that we didn’t get frustrated after the first half having so many chances to score,” senior sweeper Zach Schultz said.

Currently with a .500 record of 3-3-1, the Rebel’s next game will be against the Weymouth Wildcats on Sept. 26, on their home turf, Turco Field, at 6:45
