Rebels Race to the Finish Against Braintree and Weymouth

After a memorable start to the new season, the girls cross country team came back on Tuesday September 16 for another tri-meet.  The Rebels raced against both Braintree and Weymouth at Wampatuck State Park.  This race, however, ended in a silent bus ride.

Junior Courtney Shea (17:54) had her first win this past Tuesday, beating out every other runner on the 2.86 mile course.  Unfortunately, there was a huge gap of one minute and 21 seconds between Walpole’s number one and two runners; four Weymouth girls came in second through fifth.  The next rebels to come in were juniors Brigette Lawton and Elizabeth Jelloe, who finished within eight seconds of each other.  The last Walpole runner to place was junior Grace Lynch snagging ninth place to beat out Braintree’s number one girl.

The Rebels won against Braintree by a considerable gap.  However, this victory did not carry over against the Weymouth team. Next week the girls look forward to their first home meet of the year against Natick and Norwood. They all hope their record will improve to 5-1, the best record the girls cross country team has seen in quite some time.
